Dr. Basso has mastered skills in molecular biology, protein purification and analysis, protein chemistry,
steady-state and pre-steady-state kinetics, isotope effects, spectroscopy and thermodynamics. Dr. Basso employs
his skills to the function-based design of
inhibitors of defined molecular targets for the development of chemotherapeutic agents to treat, for instance, tuberculosis.

he is a full professor of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). Dr. Bizarro has mastered
skills in mass spectrometry and molecular biophysics, acting on the following subjects: structural characterization
of proteins by mass spectrometry,
Mycobacterium tuberculosis proteomics, thermodynamics of nucleic acids, experiments with isolated molecules and optical tweezers.

a full professor of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). Dr. Machado has mastered
skills in organic chemistry, with emphasis on the design and synthesis of bioactive compounds, acting mainly on the following topics:
heterocyclic compounds, sustainable chemicals (green chemistry), analgesia, endocannabinoid system, QSAR, tuberculosis and cancer.

did MSc at Evangelica School of Medicine and PhD at Paulista School of Medicine. He is clinically trained in internal
medicine and in pulmonary diseases and serves on the Steering Committee for TB of the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
He directs the Academic Program of Tuberculosis at FURJ, and has been an active participant in Fogarty training grants
since 1993. Over the last decade, he has coordinated studies on tuberculosis and HIV
infection, multi-drug resistant TB and the infectiousness of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the community, hospitals, and prisons.

graduated in Medicine at UFRJ (1973), MSc in Thoracic at UFRJ (1982) and PhD in Pulmonary Immunopathology at National
Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London (1991). Dr. Lapa e Silva did post-doctoral studies at the Pasteur
Institute in Paris (1991-1992 and 1999), and 14 senior internships between 1993 and 2002 at the Pasteur Institute and
Cornell University. He is a professor at UFRJ since 1977, professor of Pulmonology, Faculty of Medicine, Federal University
of Rio de Janeiro (since 1997) and was Director of the Research Division of the University Hospital Clementino Fraga Filho / UFRJ
(2007-2010) and Executive Director Institute of Diseases of the Chest / UFRJ (2001-2005). He has experience in the field of Medicine with emphasis in Pulmonology,
on the following subjects: lung immunology, pathogenesis of asthma and COPD, bronchial pulmonary inflammation, allergy and tuberculosis.

Espírito Santo (UFES), Vitória, ES, Brazil. Dr. Dietze is also Consulting Associate Professor of Medicine, Duke University
Medical Center, Durham, NC, USA. He has been involved in numerous phase I/II clinical trials of tuberculosis, schistosomiasis,
leishmaniasis, sporotrichosis, and candidiasis in
immunosuppressed patients. Dr. Dietze is highly experienced in clinical trial design and logistical, regulatory issues related to IND trials.

the Infectious Diseases Center (NDI). Dr. Palaci received training in Mycobacteriology at the Infectious Disease Institute,
Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, under the supervision of Drs. Tsukamura and Kosaka. Dr. Palaci is the former Director of the
Mycobacteriology Laboratory at the Adolfo Lutz Institute, in São Paulo, Brazil, the largest public health reference TB laboratory in Brazil.
